Hanoi Design Centre is established as a result of the cooperation between Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association (Vietcraft) and Lund University’s School of Industrial Design (Sweden). This cooperation is supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Hanoi. The School of Industrial Design at Lund University is one of the leading schools of design in Europe and recognized worldwide. It offers a complete academic journey from undergraduate to PhD levels, with two programmes leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees of Fine Arts in Design. The main objective of the School is to translate cultural patterns and technological developments into tangible solutions. The Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association (Vietcraft) was founded in 2007 with the participation of over 600 handicraft exporters nationwide. The major activities of Vietcraft are to provide services to its member exporters and to the sector in general. Specific services offered by Vietcraft include training, marketing, promotion, information, branding, and other services to optimize the value chain of the crafts sector in Vietnam. The needs of Vietnamese handicraft producers and exporters to add value to their products and increase their global competitiveness through product design and development can be readily met through close cooperation with the Design School. The School, relying on the long tradition and experience of Swedish design culture dating back to the 19th century, has made a bridge with today’s environment of technological developments and ensuring customer satisfaction. The School has its proven experience of training in design, consulting, research, development of samples and models in a workshop, participating in exhibitions and international design events, accessing relevant literature and documentation, and interacting with the business world which is a particularly important direction for Vietnam.
